Micro Ring vs. Glue Hair Extensions
Why have hair extensions?
Unless you are one of the lucky ones, most people have quite thin hair. With old age, pressures of life and medication come weaker follicles. Having hair extensions can give your hair a real kick start to a new, more voluminous look and put that spark back into your life.
With the celebrity trend for very short hair, many ladies copied their idols. However, here at Barbarella Hair Salon, we are increasingly seeing ladies who are bored of their bobs and pixies. The simple answer to this is to have hair extensions fitted! Easy!
If you are looking to change the colour of your hair but don’t want to go down the hair colouring route, having quality hair extensions fitted is a great way to add some colour. You can add some highlights or lowlights, or add a shock of bright purple or green. Using hair extensions to add colour to your hair is a great way to go.
With celebrities flaunting hair extensions at every photo opportunity, the demand for hair extensions in our hair salon at Barbarella increases. There are several different ways of attaching new hair extensions. When you look at the options a little more closely though, the choice to be made is really only: some form of glue, or micro rings. There will be several factors that you will need to consider when choosing with attachment technique you prefer. The two most important ones being: the after effect and the potential for damage.
What are micro rings?
Micro ring hair extensions use a technique with tiny copper rings to combine strands of natural hair with the hair extension. Also known as micro bead or micro loop extensions, they are a really great choice when it comes to a longer-term hair extension solution. The hair extensions are applied one strand at a time with the rings holding the extensions in place securely. No glues or chemicals are required. Hair extensions using the micro ring technique last for around 3 to 4 months before maintenance is required and hair as short as 4 inches long can be extended with this method.
What are glue extensions?
Exactly what they say on the tin! These are extensions that are glued into place. Applied well, glue hair extensions will last around 3 months before they need to be taken out and re-worked.
Why choose micro ring extensions over glue extensions?
• Micro ring extensions can be re-used again and again! Whereas glued-in hair extensions need to be replaced, your hairdresser or stylist can re-use your micro ring extensions.
• Reduced risk of damage. As there are no adhesives or glues use in micro ring extensions, you are completely removing the damage caused when glued-in extensions are taken out of your hair.
• When you have glued-in extensions, it is recommended that you allow your natural hair to rest in between fittings. With micro ring extensions this is just not the case. Micro ring extensions can be fitted back-to-back; you’ll never be without your extensions!
• The copper rings that are used in micro ring extensions come in different colours meaning that they will be almost invisible to the casual viewers. Glued-in extensions however, can be very obvious when the glue site is visible.
Overall, micro ring extensions are currently considered the safest types of hair extension. There is no glue being added, and chemicals are not required to remove them as you would with glued-in extensions.
