Ombre, dip dye, Ballyage?  Let us explain…

Ombre hair may have been around for a while, but it is being heralded as one of the hottest hair colour trends for this year! Long or short hair, you can enjoy this trend. It can be a subtle change to your existing hair colour, or bright and colourful as the celebrities have shown. Make your booking with us at Barbarella Northampton Hair Salon, to get your unique look for this trend.

What is Ombre hair?

The word ‘ombre’ is a borrowed French word that means shade or shading. When used to talk about hair, it usually means hair that is darker at the roots and lighter at the tips. This style tends to gradually change shade from root to tip. At Barbarella Hair, your favourite Northampton Hair Salon, we can create your new look – cutting and colouring your hair in one session, just ask us!

What is Balayage?

Balayage is another great word borrowed from the French language. It means to sweep or to paint. That beautiful sun-kissed look you rock after a fortnight on the beach can be copied in your Northampton Hair Salon! Different to a full hair dye, a Balayage treatment gives softer, less noticeable regrowth lines. This ‘less is more’ approach’ creates a soft, natural look. It could be suggested that Balayage has had a re-emergence from people loving Gisele Bündchen’s sun-lightened hair. Penélope Cruz has gone for the subtle look with coppery tones. The best thing about Balayage? This is a look that will grow out without noticeable roots!

What is dip-dye?

Northampton Hair Salon, Barbarella can style anything you are after. Dip-dye is similar to Ombre or Balayage in that the tips of your hair are a different colour to your roots but, as the name suggests, the finished effect is hair that looks like it has been dipped, suddenly becoming a different colour. Rita Ora has been snapped with some amazing purple tips and Jessica Abla has shown off some subtle brunette tips.

Not just for girls!

Ombre, Balayage and dip-dye aren’t just looks for girls! Guys – get down to Barbarella, Northampton Hair Salon and have your style re-worked! Really guys have been wearing these styles for just as long as the girls – think of the short, darker sides and longer bleached tops the guys were wearing in the 90s. While we’re a bit more knowledgeable about the dangers of hair bleaching, there is no reason why the guys can’t have the shocking colour changes now.

How else can you wear Ombre, Balayage or dip-dye?

The undercut trend gives perfect opportunities for both sexes to wear some great colours all through their hair. Maybe those of you with longer hair can have some bright colours underneath your top layer of hair for the weekend, while wearing your hair down or up if needed for work – there is no need to shy from the colour trends just because you can’t show them off at work!
