Beware of Photoshopped Hair Colour Images

There is nothing more that we love as hairdressers and stylists than for our clients to leave our hair salon with a look that they love. Whether they are sporting a new hair colour or hair extensions, we love you leaving feeling amazing.

It used to be that our clients would bring a picture or selection of pictures from a magazine and we would work our magic to give them that look. While magazines still play a large part towards helping you choose a style, many people are now seeing cuts and styles online. With celebrities posting non-stop on twitter, Facebook, and other social media outlets, if you are looking for style inspiration you will be spoilt for choice. This is great and we love it. However, with social media comes photoshop!! Hair colour and hair extensions can look one way, but once they have been photoshopped, they can look completely different. What you will see online can not always be achieved in real life. Our hairdressers and stylists will do their best, but hair styles and colours moving as quickly as Kim Kardashian’s 3 hour black to blonde hair appointment in Paris is, unfortunately, a completely unrealistic expectation.

When you come into Barbarella’s hair salon, please do bring the inspiration for your new look. When you have your consultation we will be able to go through with you what is and isn’t possible. Sometimes the hair colour you are looking to achieve is possible, but will need more than one visit to our hair salon.

Tops Tips for hair colour expectations
When considering your new hair colour, there are a few things that will help you:
• Look at the picture! Is the hair colour really bright or unnatural? If so, your hair will need to be very blonde to achieve that colour.
• Does the model’s hair look real? Maybe this isn’t something that you have thought of before, but models regularly wear wigs and extensions. If their hair looks just too perfect or straight, then it might not even be real.
• Photoshop. Now, if a really good and professional photograph editor has had their hands on the photograph, then you might not be able to tell. If the celebrity has photoshopped their own photo however, look out for the common mistakes that they make! Are all of the lines in the photo straight? Are there any reflective areas in the back of the picture that tell a different story? Do the colours in the photograph look too perfect? These are all signs that the photograph may well have been photoshopped!
• Have you seen the model with more than this one hair colour or hair length? If yes, then their hair colour and style are probably not their own!

At the end of the day, bringing in a photoshopped photograph is not a problem in itself. Just make sure that you understand that the photograph has been altered and that your hair colour may not be able to achieve the same; however talented and experienced your hair stylist is! We just want you to leave our hair salon with a smile!
