[gn_heading size=”20″ align=”left”]2014 Hair Forecast: Ponytails, Plaits and Mixed Textures[/gn_heading]

We’ve consulted our crystal balls and are predicting a few trends for 2014. Will bobs be back? Will Ombre be over? Will curls be cut? Here’s our 2014 hair trend forecast.

Elaborate ponytails
Not for the fainthearted. If you’re a hairstyling pro, a blogger looking for a new look or just wanting to inject some pizzazz into your morning routine, next season ponies are really jumping the hurdles and racing around the ground. Try a three-way pony tail tied together with ribbon, or backcombed roots with the rest swept into a messy barely-there ponytail. How about leaving half your hair out and loose and the other knotted and tied into place? It’s all about being different and letting your hair do the talking.

Pleasant peasant plaits
Plaits have been the choice for anyone waking up with bed head hair. They’re easy and look smart. This season we’re taking them up a notch and making them more romantic and medieval than ever before. The style is a fuzzy, loose look. Don’t worry about making sure every strand of hair is in place. This is about embracing frizz and letting romance flow through your hair. Summer will see this look really come into play, with oversized flowers and garlands taking peasant plaits up a notch or two. They’ve been huge on the runways, and we can’t wait until they come into play next year.

Mixed textures
Waves and curls with super slicked back roots, full-bodied roots with poker-straight ends. It’s a pick ‘n’ mix, where you can literally mix and match two or more styles to reflect your mood. We love how this will transform long hair into something far more lifelike and interesting. While K-Mid curls have dominated the long haired scene for a while, we’re hoping people will dare to be different and get all their hair styling products involved.

Choppy crops
You may not dare cutting a short fringe or pixie crop if you’ve spent the last year growing your hair out to fit in with the very boho and blowdried look of last year. But choppy, short and messy is a theme we’ll see played over and over again. Blunt bobs cut into a precise messy look. It may look random, but it’s actually a carefully constructed textured look that will suit any face shape.

So these are out predictions, and we can’t wait to get started on them. What do you think? Will you be trying any out for yourself?
